INTERNATIONAL SYSTEM MEASURES fittings and adapters

 

To begin the identification of a fitting or adapter, is very important to have the right tools. Which are:

 

A. thread pitch Gauge.

B. Angle meter.

C. Caliper.

When looking at a fitting we can measure the pitch of the thread, if the outside diameter and inside diameter male thread if female thread.

The thread pitch is the measure between two successive teeth as seen in next Fig.

The measurement procedure is performed as follows.

 

With the caliper in your hand, measure the outer and inner diameter as the case. Then,  use the pitch gauge, determine the # of teeth per inch or pitch in millimeters, as applicable. For this, you must select each of the leaves until you get a perfect fit.

 

Note that the American or inch threads give the pitch by # of teeth per inch (eg 18, 24 etc..) And metric threads only give as between 2 consecutive teeth in millimeters (1, 1.5 etc..).

 

Finally, compare the results of measurements with the appropriate table shown below.
