What is a Compact Excavator?

Articles - Mobile

Mini excavatorA compact Glossary Link excavator can be used in various ways such as digging and loading earth into a dump truck. Its tight swing radius is best suited for working in a confined area.

Diesel-fueled engines mounted on compact excavators drive the travel Glossary Link motor and hydraulic Glossary Link pump. Hydraulic Glossary Link pressure,

which is generated when hydraulic oil in the hydraulic pump transmits the oil to a Glossary Link cylinder, moves the work equipment of the excavator. An operator can perform heavy-duty jobs that require tremendous power by moving levers with little effort.

The work equipment of an excavator is similar to a human arm, enabling an operator to maneuver the machine just like moving his/her own arm. In addition, replacing a bucket with various attachments enables a wider range of work, such as breaking rocks, lifting or grabbing an object. The blade at the foot of the excavator can doze soil and level the ground.

There are two types of upper attachments, a canopy and a cabin. A canopy has a protective guard and a cabin is sealed within a compartment.

Komatsu's compact excavator pushes the envelope of safety, maintainability and operator comfort while also enhancing working performance.

This Glossary Link series ERoll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS) and Top Guard canopy greatly contribute to safety. ROPS protects the operator from injury in the event of a rollover (assuming that they have fastened their safety belt), while the Top Guard canopy protects the operator from injury due to falling debris. For added safety, a single safety lever enables the machine controls to lock while allowing the engine to start up only when the safety lever is in the “LOCK E position.

compact excavator provides larger foot space and wider walk-through space for easier entry and exit from the machine. Moreover, a newly adopted large reclining seat allows the operator to select the optimum work posture for comfortable operation.
